S.E.X. Review~ Summer Drifter by RJ Scott

🐎  Opposites Attract
🐎  Millionaire/Cowboy
🐎  Secret Baby Uncle
🐎  A new life
🐎  Horses, ranches, and cowboys everywhere

One craves family, the other isolation; neither of them expected love.

Experienced and much-in-demand horse trainer Levi doesn't need or want people. With his horse and dog at his side, he lives out of his trailer and trains horses in the summer to earn just enough to head south for winter. Infrequent hook-ups with no-tell cowboys takes care of sex, but the moment any connection gets anywhere near complicated, he moves on. Losing a lover to violence has taught him that if he's alone, he can't get hurt, and in return, he avoids the pain of loss. Everything in his easy-going life is on track until he knocks over Quinn, a pink-haired stranger who pirouettes in front of his truck, sits in his lap and calls him cowboy with the sexiest voice he's ever heard. Anger turns to frustration, lust turns to love, and by the end of the summer, Levi doesn't know which way to turn.

Quinn loses everything when the cops find his brother's body on the remains of a compound that belonged to a cult. Damaged and vulnerable, Max had been the only safe place for Quinn in his otherwise cold family, but finding out that Max might have had a son sends Quinn to Wyoming and the Lennox Ranch. When he's knocked to the ground on day one at the ranch, he wonders if maybe he should have thought things through better. After all, he'd bought two horses and a house to get close enough to Lennox ranch just to see if he was an uncle. He craves love, connection and is excited to be part of a family, searching for a place where he can finally stop running. He never meant to fall for the closed-off cowboy, but somehow Levi steals his heart and Quinn falls in love.

WOW! Summer Drifter by RJ Scott was full of angst and heartache but also contained love and camaraderie. The first book in the Whisper Ridge, Wyoming series left me hanging, but Summer Drifter hit the mark. Opposites in life, the main characters, Quinn and Levi found a balance to their budding relationship while the scales attempted to always tip over.

Each man brought baggage to the plate, albeit from different point of views, but regardless, their perceptions were real and needed to be worked on before they could ever forge a union.

Ms. Scott delivered her angst- filled story by not always making it easy for them but making them work for it. She allowed the characterization to form organically, thus making it a more believable read. The storyline flowed and the author’s attention to detail, as always, left me satisfied. I immersed myself in the lives of Quinn and Levi and was able to emotionally connect with each of them- a testament to Ms. Scott’s ability to draw the reader in.

A lovely story!

S.E.X. Review~ Footsteps of the Past by Felice Stevens

It was like in the movies: their eyes met from across the room and they fell in love.

Nine years later, Chess and André are the envy of all their friends.
But this is real life….and things are never what they seem.

Still waters run deep—the better to hide Chess’s ugly past. He’s worked hard to bury the troubled teen he once was and is living a life he never imagined possible. André’s love is a gift that makes him believe in second chances, and Chess is grateful for it every day. The only thing he wants is what André finds impossible to give: his time. Six months apart might be the breaking point, even for Chess.

One horrible night changed André’s life forever. Formerly a party boy of the Hamptons social scene, André buries himself in work for years until he meets Chess and learns to enjoy the simple things. He’s tired of being away from home all the time and ready to step down from his role as CEO of the family business, no matter how they try and pull him back in. But old habits die hard…and so do memories.

Photos from the past and present surface, shocking Chess and André out of their carefully constructed dream life. They are forced to face the unthinkable: the love they thought would last a lifetime may be on the brink of falling apart. Secrets are exposed, opening a Pandora’s box both men hoped would stay locked forever. Now Chess and André face the hardest question: do you ever really know the person you’re living with?

Footsteps of the Past was a beautifully written book by author Felice Stevens. Chess and Andre were already a couple in book 1, The List, of the Second Chances series, and I looked forward to their story. While the book is a standalone, I recommend reading The List first as the college friends’ lives were intertwined.

Each man in Footsteps of the Past had their own secrets, of which potentially could destroy their relationship. Ms. Stevens did not take their issues lightly and allowed the characters to grow as their story unfolded. At times, I may have found a bit of whininess, but that may have been more my perception and not the reality. I thoroughly enjoyed the story, but for me there was something missing (although I can not put my finger on it). I loved the banter between the friend group and how they accepted new loves in their circle. I especially can not wait for Wolf and Spencer’s story.

As a fan of Ms. Stevens, I look forward to everything she writes.

S.E.X. Release Blitz & Review~ Family According to Liam by V.L. Locey

Cover Design: Meredith Russell

Length: 52,000 words approx.

According To Liam Series

Blurb

The bonds of family aren’t regulated by blood. They’re defined by love and an open heart.

Bryn and Michael Mettler have lived a life that many can only dream about. The two men had a whirlwind romance and ended up happily married. Bryn played hockey for the Pittsburgh Ravens, and Michael worked at a job he loved in web design and writing a successful humor blog. They also doted on Mike’s nephew Liam as all good uncles should.

They’ve welcomed a new member into their small but loving clan. Made strides to heal a fractured past hurt. Traveled the world and settled into their new home and lives with great joy. The only thing missing was a child of their own. That absent piece is now here, and their lives are about to change in a million charming, unexpected ways.

USA Today Bestselling Author V.L. Locey – Penning LGBT hockey romance that skates into sinful pleasures.

V.L. Locey loves worn jeans, yoga, belly laughs, walking, reading and writing lusty tales, Greek mythology, Torchwood and Dr. Who, the New York Rangers, comic books, and coffee. (Not necessarily in that order.) She shares her life with her husband, her daughter, one dog, two cats, a pair of geese, far too many chickens, and two steers.

When not writing spicy romances, she enjoys spending her day with her menagerie in the rolling hills of Pennsylvania with a cup of fresh java in one hand and a steamy romance novel in the other.

Family According to Liam by V.L. Locey was a wonderfully funny addition to the series. As I read each book, am I able to better connect with the Mettler family and see Liam’s carefully crafted point of view. The story further continued with many changes on the horizon. Bryn and Michael hoped to adopt a little girl, Bridgette, Liam was expecting a new baby brother, and life of the Mettler men never eased.

Ms. Locey always does a great job of writing from the characters POV, whether it be adult or child- I loved the dynamics. Bridgette’s character was as precocious as her soon to be cousin, Liam, and the narration delivered by each child was spot on.

The author’s uncanny ability to allow the reader to connect was apparent because the problems of a world-famous goalie were the problems of everyday people attempting to get through life with friendship, love, and family.

Ms. Locey moved the storyline forward with each book, as people grew and matured and life changed. She allowed her characters to change as well, which made the story even more believable. Secondary characters with more books to come only added to the appeal. A wonderful series, that should be read from the start.

S.E.X. Review~ Red Dirt Heart 3 by N.R. Walker

Life for Charlie Sutton has never been better, or busier. With Travis now a permanent fixture of Sutton Station, a permanent fixture at Charlie’s side, Charlie’s convinced he couldn’t do anything on his ever-growing to-do list without him.

He can run a multimillion dollar cattle business, finish his degree, try and further the local beef industry, deal with staff issues, Ma’s failing health, and an attention-demanding wombat. He can even deal with an unexpected visitor and some shattering news.

He can deal with it all, as long as he has Travis.

But what happens when he doesn’t?

Red Dirt Heart 3 is the story of Charlie Sutton finally realising he can be the man Travis Craig deserves, even if he doesn’t have Travis. It’s a story of love, family, holding on, letting go and coming home.

Red Dirt Heart 3 furthered continued the story of Sutton Station owner Charlie and his American lover Travis. N.R. Walker delivered a heart-wrenching story as many things that could go awry, did.

Charlie’s insecurities drove me a tad bit crazy, but I do not believe the story would have worked if his emotions did not come into play. As a man who always prided himself on the straight and narrow, being with Travis opened his eyes to so many possibilities. Ms. Walker allowed Charlie to grow as a man and lover.

Travis was probably my favorite character of the series. I loved his penchant for collecting strays- a wombat named Nugget- and I adored how he named all the cattle. His affinity for all things American and meshed with a dose of the Outback made the banter and dialogue witty and funny.

Travis’s heading back to Texas messed with Charlie’s mental state, but he learned to trust and believe. Although this book was more emotional than the previous, an HEA was still achieved, and everyone came out better in the end.

I never get tired of an N.R. Walker book and Charlie and Travis moved up the list of some of my favorite couples.

S.E.X. Review~ Red Dirt Heart 2 by N.R. Walker

Up until Travis arrived on his doorstep, Charlie had lived a very solitary life. He had surrounded himself with isolation; a couple million acres of red dirt, scorching sun and loneliness.

Six months on, winter has settled over the desert, and Charlie has the life he never dreamed possible. But living and working together, twenty four hours a day, seven days a week, for six months straight starts to take its toll.

Charlie is a stubborn, stubborn man, who tends to have more conversations in his head than what comes out his mouth, whereas Travis has no problem saying what’s on his mind. And even as they both struggle to communicate, struggle to make sense of need versus want, Charlie can see that he’s pushing Travis away - yet seems helpless to stop it.

When it all boils down to whether Travis should stay or go, maybe the decision won’t be theirs to make.

Red Dirt Heart 2 by N.R. Walker further told the story of Australian Charlie Sutton and American Travis Craig. In book one, Travis arrived as an agronomy student to study and learn about the practices of ranching in the Outback, only to stay and fall in love with Charlie. Charlie may be gay and out to a select few, but not to others, who could potentially hurt his ranch business.

Whether it was running the spread, admitting to “the world” that you are gay, a Visa that was about the expire~ RDH2 took the reader on an emotional roller coaster.

I adored Charlie and Travis and the yin to the yang was perfect. The men complemented each other both in pleasure and work. Life at Sutton Station was difficult, isolated, and lonely, yet Charlie attempted to make their home and place where friendship and family was abounded; first he needed to resolve plaguing demons, so that he could come out better on the other end.

Ms. Walker always draws her readers into the story and makes them feel a part of the surrounding areas, and a part of the characters lives, an extended family. A lesson in life in the Outback, the closest commerce town, and the conventions that were followed flowed through the book as a history lesson allowing the reader to immerse in the experience and total package.

Charlie’s stubbornness radiated through Ms. Walker’s hand, and she allowed him to drive her words. Travis’s large heart shined throughout from Charlie to strays. Uplifting moments made me chuckle and I knew all would end well.

I look forward to reading RHD 3 and the further enchanting story of Sutton Station.

S.E.X. Review~ Top Shelf by RJ Scott & V.L. Locey

Acting on the attraction to his best friend’s brother has always been off the table for Xander until a passionate hookup with Mason at a beach resort begins a love affair that burns long after summer ends.

Mason specializes in assisting same-sex couples on their journey to becoming parents and fighting every rule that blocks his way in the stuck-in-the-past agency that hired him. Living in his brother’s pool house is rent-free, and every cent he earns he saves for his dream—that one day he’d have his own company helping others. The downside is that he has to see his annoying brother every day, the upside is that his brother’s teammates from the Boston Rebels make regular visits. The eye candy that passes Mason’s window is almost enough to make him consider dating a hockey player, but not just any player though. Ever since Xander—his brother’s childhood friend—came out as gay at a press conference, Mason’s puppy love has turned into a burning attraction he can no longer ignore.

Hockey has been one of Xander’s main focuses since he was old enough to balance on skates. Well, hockey and Mason Kingsley, but Mason was always unattainable. Now that he’s about to see thirty candles on his birthday cake and is no longer hiding the fact he’s gay, he’s ready to find a soul mate to make his life complete. A summer vacation is just what he needs to have time to think, but when the Boston Rebels arriving in paradise with Mason in tow, thinking is the last thing he needs. One torrid night under a balmy moon and rules about not messing with his best friend’s brother vanish on a warm, tropical breeze.

Summer romances don’t generally last past Labor Day, but with the new season about to begin Xander and Mason are going to have to face the world and decide if their love is real enough to withstand everything.

Top Shelf was a wonderful start to authors RJ Scott & V.L. Locey’s newest hockey series, Boston Rebels. What I loved most about the collaboration of these two lovely ladies, was they never forget the crossing of other books in their series and always pay close attention to details.

Xander, a hockey player for the Rebels, finally came out as bi. Mason was brother to Eli, Xander’s best friend and teammate. Once the news came to light, Mason decided to take charge of his unrequited love for Xander and move things along.

I loved the banter between oh so serious Xander and his teammates. All a little bit quirky, each man added a nuance that enhanced the storyline. Finally able to be himself, Xander was unrepentant once he allowed his feelings for Mason to come forth. Together the men made a striking couple.

At first, I thought Mason would be whiny and needy, but I was so happy to find that I adored him from the start, as he truly loved Xander from afar, and when the opportunity arose to explore his feelings, he did so with maturity. Don’t get me wrong, there were very funny laugh out loud parts to the story, which kept this reader intrigued and amused.

In the end, the received their HEA and I look forward to more in the series.
