When former Marine, Conner Ortega, was ordered into the offices of Crest Security Agency on a Saturday morning, he didn't expect the latest case to hit so close to home. A submissive has been murdered in a particularly vicious manner and to bring her killer to justice, he must go undercover. Not hard to do considering he's already part of the BDSM lifestyle.
Lauren Bailey, a local vendor of bejeweled erotic implements, lives vicariously through her clients due to her fear of bondage. When Connor's dominant side can't resist trying to ease her anxieties, she accepts his proposal and agrees to one stipulation...keep things casual.
When the killer sets his sights on Lauren, Connor is forced to rethink their relationship. He has the training it takes to catch a murdered, but does he have the courage to escape his inner demons and capture Lauren's heart?
Wow! Kennedy Layne’s
new creation Captured Innocence was a
fantastic, suspenseful ride of mystery and sensuality. Captured Innocence led this reader on a nail-biting trail with
twist and turns creating a spell-binding start to her new series CSA Case Files.
Main characters Lauren and Connor were three dimensional as
layer after layer of their lives and personalities were revealed. The issues that
ensued in their lives were realistic and credible as they traversed
the line from professionalism to personal.
The timing of events in the story was flawless and the buildup
of solving the mystery was gripping. Additionally the relationship of Connor
and Lauren moved from one plane to the next as personal pasts reared their ugly
heads but by opening up their hearts and bearing their souls, the peace and
serenity in the relationship was achieved.
The element of BDSM was beautifully embedded into the story
but did not dictate nor overwhelm the purpose intended. BDSM was an underlying
theme that revolved around members of the CSA team as well as their cases, but did
not overshadow the messages of honesty and trust. Ms. Layne captured my attention as a fan of mystery, BDSM, and
well-developed characters.
I believe that Kennedy
Layne has created the perfect storm in writing this book. A full length
novel that held my attention; characters that had substance and a purpose for
every emotion felt and line spoken, and secrets to be revealed as the series
continues. And wait. Did I mention the sex was erotically hot?!
Definite S.E.X.
