Kane is known for his prowess on the battlefield. Unfortunately, that reputation has triggered the council of his native planet to ask him to breed. Kane is determined to only mate for love so he concocts a plan to fake a joining to another male before jumping planet and leaving everything behind. He never counted on meeting a thief who would turn his plan into something more than a means to escape.

Jewl was just looking to make some cash. He never expected to come face to face with the warrior he was stealing from. Threatened with death if he doesn’t cooperate, Jewl agrees to be Kane’s pretend bond mate. But it will take more than just good acting for them to dupe the Warlord council.

As they spend more time together, it’s harder to remain indifferent. Will the possibility of love be enough to hold the two together?

Review

One Man’s Treasure is a short, quirky sci-fi story that will satisfy any reader’s love of romance and happily ever after.  Kris Jansen weaves a tale of an unlucky thief caught by a menacing warlord and the development of their relationship.  One Man’s Treasure finds Jewl caught stealing sensitive computer information and Kane upending his thievery.  Kane is a genetically engineered warlord, informed by the Council that he is to mate and breed in order to carry on his superior genes. Kane has no intention of bedding a female and procreating, thus once he captures the human thief, a plan begins to formulate in his mind that may be desirable to both men. Kane has decided to mate the human in exchange for Jewl’s freedom once the proof of their mating can be shown to the Council.

Jewl sees this as an opportunity tossed into his lap that would be beneficial for both parties; little did he expect to fall in love with Kane. Ms. Jansen weaves a well-written and colorful sci-fi story. As I read the tale, I knew exactly the direction she wanted me to follow. Her descriptors and characterization left no room for error as Nanos were described and feelings were defined.

Kane was the ever-present alpha male, who knew his feelings for the human thief were true and uninhibited. I immediately fell in love with his charm as he tumbled into the world of love and endearments. There is something very sexy about a man calling his love interest ‘my treasure’. Jewl’s personality was bold and spicy, never relenting to the dominant Kane and standing toe to toe with his sense of chivalry, as a Council member attempts to create a rift between the two.

The sexual tension created by Ms. Jansen between Kane and Jewl was spicy and titillating building to carnal endeavors that steamed the pages. A short story that held my attention and should be added to the read list for lovers of M/M romance.
