Hello everyone. I’m T.A. Chase and I’d like to thank you for
having me here today. My new book is called Climbing the Savage Mountain and
it’s a sequel to the short story, Mountains to Climb. It was one of the first
short stories in the What’s His Passion line at Pride Publishing.
In Mountains, we meet Jensen and Toby, ex-lovers who hadn’t
seen each other for six years before Jensen returned. There was a lot of anger
and hurt between them to work out, but the guys were willing to give it a try.
In the next book, Climbing the Savage Mountain, we find the
guys are working the way through their issues and loving each other. Will they
make it through all the difficulties that surround Jensen’s obsession with
mountain climbing?
Jensen has a bucket list of the top 10 most difficult
mountains to climb. He’s crossed most of them off except for Everest and K2. Each
time he leaves, Toby has to question whether he’ll be back—or if summiting
another mountain will cause Jensen to forget about what he has with Toby.
For some people, their obsession—or passion—comes to mean
more than the person they love. That might end up being a bad thing. Then there
are those who use their passion to help clear their lives of worse addictions,
which is what Jensen did.
Sometimes passion can make the world an amazing place. They
brighten and sharpen the hours in which a person lives, making them feel more
alive. As long as those passions are healthy, it’s nothing wrong with them.
Climbing helps clear Jensen’s mind and focuses him on what
is most important in his life—Toby. So in a way, Toby becomes Jensen’s
obsession in the end. Not in a stalkerish way though. Lol.
In the end, a decision had to be made: either continue
climbing or choose Toby. Not everyone can make a choice like that. Obsessions
can turn dark and all-encompassing. It gives the person with the passion the
ultimate high, which for an addict can be difficult to break.
I wanted to portray Jensen’s love of climbing as something
good that saved him when he was on his way to rock bottom and maybe even dying.
Yet there was always someone else in Jensen’s heart, so maybe his obsession
wasn’t so strong that he couldn’t turn his back on the mountains if he wanted
to.
I hope you get a chance to read Climbing the Savage Mountain,
and find out what choice Jensen makes. Also, I hope if you do read it, you
enjoy a little bit of what goes into climbing Everest and K2. The danger and
the beauty of the mountains.
Thank you for having me here today. I thought I’d leave you
with a little excerpt from the book.
Toby groaned when they got back to the house. As the
sun set, the temperature had dropped and they’d run faster to get back home
before it got too cold. He hadn’t run that fast in a long time. His legs
protested as he dashed up the front steps then jogged in place until Jensen
finally got the door open.
“Holy shit!” He
chaffed his hands. “It got cold out there.”
Jensen nodded.
“Yeah. Let’s go grab a shower. Just be careful about the water. Don’t start it
out hot. Do it cool and we’ll slowly warm it up.”
He wasn’t looking
forward to that experience. “Why don’t we just wait until we’re warm before we
take a shower? I really don’t want to take a cold shower. We can have some
cake.”
It was a bribe, but
Toby didn’t care. He didn’t like being cold and if getting Jensen to eat
dessert with him meant he could take a warm shower, then he’d do it. Shaking his
head, Jensen locked the door before taking a hold of Toby’s hand and escorting
him upstairs.
“I want dessert,
but not cake. My dessert’s going help me burn some more calories, warm us up
and get us even more sweaty.” Jensen leered at him.
Toby didn’t argue.
He’d much rather make love with Jensen then eat any day. He took the hem of
Jensen’s sweatshirt in his fingers, lifting it up over his head. Jensen raised
his arms to help him. They didn’t say anything while they finished undressing.
Once they were
naked, Toby gripped Jensen’s hips, easing his chilled body against Jensen’s. He
sucked in a deep breath and shivered. Jensen leaned down to nibble along Toby’s
jaw to his mouth. Moaning softly, Toby opened to Jensen’s questing tongue.
While they kissed,
Toby slipped his hands around to squeeze Jensen’s ass. Then he trailed one set
of his fingers along Jensen’s crease to tease his hole. Jensen rose up on his
feet, but pushed back into his touch.
Toby broke the
kiss, dropping his lips to the soft triangle of skin at the base of Jensen’s
throat. He sucked hard, leaving a mark there, claiming Jensen for all to see.
He brought his hand up to Jensen’s mouth.
“Get them wet,” he
ordered. He knew Jensen liked a little bit of burn, so they didn’t always use a
lot of lube when Toby topped.
While Jensen sucked
and licked, Toby leaned farther down to press the tip of his tongue to one of
Jensen’s nipples. Then he nipped at it, making Jensen jerk slightly. Toby
pinched it between his teeth and tugged, playing as much as he could until
Jensen tapped the back of his head.
Easing away, he
looked at Jensen. “Done?”
Jensen whirled out
of his embrace then bent over to brace his elbows on the edge of the mattress.
He arched his back, sticking his butt out for Toby.
“I take that as a
yes,” Toby joked.
After
conquering the world’s tallest mountain, loving Toby shouldn’t be so scary.
Jensen Brockhoff wins his
way back into Toby Schwartzel’s heart, but it won’t be that easy to erase the
pain of the past. He has two more mountains to conquer and they’re the most
difficult.
Toby understands Jensen’s
obsession with the highest peaks in the world. He’s willing to wave goodbye as
Jensen leaves on his trips, but he can’t help worrying that Jensen won’t come
back. That the lure of the mountains will prove too difficult for his love to
fight.
Climbing has always been
Jensen’s way of escape, yet loving Toby is proving stronger and Jensen must
choose between the man he loves and the passion that saved his life. Will
Jensen give up his climbing gear to build a new life with Toby?
