S.E.X. Review~ No Regrets by Alex Jane


Ex-soldier Ryan Jones likes precisely two things—his kitchen and the music his father taught him to love.
After spending too many years running from his past, he’s found something like peace. Working all day as a short-order cook in a dying town, then drinking himself to sleep at night isn’t much of a life but he thinks it’s all he needs, until the day he notices the kid.
Lucas is quiet, barely twenty, sporting a shy smile beneath his frightened eyes, and bruises that Ryan can relate to all too well. Torn between wanting to help Lucas and simply wanting him, Ryan’s resolve to keep the kid at arm’s length slowly wears away.
Until Lucas disappears.
Ryan’s not the sort of man to be anyone’s white knight. But as it turns out, what Ryan is capable of, is exactly what Lucas needs.


Tumultuousness and angst-filled described Alex Jane’s new novella, No Regrets. Older-younger M/M story, not a lot of sex, but well played and well written. Ex-Army Ranger Ryan had a sordid past, both professionally and personally, and longed for the quiet life of working in the small town diner. Enter Lucas; young, shy, and in desperate need of a friend, the two men soon found themselves drawn to each other, finding comfort and solace in the confines of Ryan’s behind the diner trailer.

Very little sexual activity, but sexual tension added to the depth of the storyline. I applaud Ms. Jane for telling a true story of shame, friendship, and bonding, sans tarnishing it with unneeded scenes to meet a market.

The underlying themes of trauma and a hidden past where regrets could play no part radiated throughout the story and provided a sense of calm to both men.

No spoilers, but the anticipation of what came, and the reality when it did, smacked this reader and came out of left field.

No Regrets delivered a darkness not found in most short novellas, yet it worked.
