S.E.X. Review~ Dawn's Desire by V.L. Locey

Amid fossils, yarrow, and cattle, two men are about to discover a love bigger than the Wyoming sky.

When Nate Pearson left heartache behind in the big city, he never looked back, he couldn’t bear to. Suffering and loss propelled him westward, but once he laid eyes on the Tetons, he knew he’d found a place where he could hide and heal. For over twenty years, the Prairie Smoke Ranch has been his refuge and his salvation. Working under the pale blue sky, he’s been able to keep the pain buried. Then one day while digging a cattle watering system, Nate and his hands unearth a mound of dinosaur bones that will change his life forever.

Once news of the discovery reaches the local university, paleontology professor Bishop Haney arrives with several undergrads to spend the summer excavating and cataloging the find. At first, Nate is unimpressed with the laid-back, surfer dude with the ocean blue eyes. But as the two opposites get to know each other, Nate discovers Bishop might be the balm his aching soul needs.

V.L. Locey captured my attention with her new book Dawn’s Desire. The overall premise of a cowboy, paleontologist, and dinosaur bones hooked me from the blurb. But, I will say the HFN was not my cup of tea. I needed a conclusion, but that did not deter me from falling in love with the characters and the new series.

Nate, cowboy and ranch foreman was stoic, serious, and distant. Bishop, dino bone specialist was surfer dude with a man bun and hippy-dippy. Who else but Ms. Locey could bring two very different characters together and make it work? The synergy between Nate and Bishop radiated throughout and the story and lit up the pages. I loved Bishop’s no-nonsense determination to break through Nate’s shell and show him his self- worth.

Nate’s tragic past weighed heavy on him, making him sullen and reserved. His closed off demeanor saddened me, yet a bright spot in the form of Bishop broke through and allowed Nate to be the man who deserved to be loved.

Since this was the first book in the series and the next will be about another couple, my hope is, their relationship continues to grow and flourish, wrapping up many details left hanging and the men ultimately receive their HEA.

Another great series by Ms. Locey.

Definite S.E.X.
