In the hottest summer on record, Iron Lake reservoir is emptying, revealing secrets that were intended to stay hidden beneath the water.

Best-selling horror writer Chris Lassiter struggles for inspiration and he's close to never writing again. His life has become an endless loop of nothing but empty pages, personal appearances, and a marketing machine that is systematically destroying his muse. In a desperate attempt to force Chris to complete unfinished manuscripts his agent buys a remote cabin. All Chris has to do is hide away and write, but he's lost his muse, and not even he can make stories appear from thin air.

Sawyer Wiseman left town for Chicago, chasing the excitement and potential of being a big city cop, rising the ranks, and making his mark. A case gone horribly wrong draws him back to Lancaster Falls. Working for the tiny police department in the town he'd been running from, digging into cold cases and police corruption, he spends his day's healing, and his nights hoping the nightmares of his last case leave him alone.

Previously reviewed with Audio review added~

What Lies Beneath, Lancaster Falls by R.J. Scott was a great mystery- fast paced, and totally intriguing. Not your typical M/M romance book, What Lies Beneath was first and foremost a mystery book and the first in the Lancaster Falls trilogy;  and two of the main characters happened to be gay. A refreshing change to an M/M characterization, Ms. Scott kept this reader captivated from the first chapter.

Chris needed a new perspective in order to write his next best seller, which his agent thought Iron Lake reservoir would be the perfect place to get his creative juices flowing. Sawyer, Lancaster Falls resident police officer had baggage in his psyche, but once he allowed Chris to wiggle into his life, the two men hit it off on a personal level.

The mystery behind the bones/bodies which suddenly turned up in the dry bed of the lake kept me hooked. Every time I thought I figured something out, a new twist developed and I was once again left scratching my head. Ms. Scott’s venture into this new and exciting genre of mystery and conspiracy was well developed and well-articulated. I loved it!

The secondary characters added to the suspense and drama, leaving us with more questions than answers, but with the hope that all will be answered by the end of the third book.

Skeletal remains, corrupt small town government, missing persons and two sexy men- and did I mentions there’s a dog?

Ms. Scott, you have transported me to the small town of Lancaster Falls, and I will not leave the area until the mystery is solved.

Audio Review~

It is no secret that I adore listening to the sultry sounds of Sean Crisden. The inflection in his voice lends to a narration worth the time to hear. All the characters came to life and I was in the thick of the mystery, awaiting for the next hammer to fall. I pictured myself listening to an old fashion murder mystery on the radio and was immediately sucked in by Mr. Crisden.

Wonderful narration and I look forward to listening to more by this orator.

Can Connor show River a real family Christmas?

When Connor finds River on the roof of the campus admin building, he doesn’t know what to do. His friend is drunk and shouting into a snowstorm, a bottle of vodka in his hand. The easy part is getting River down; the hard part is insisting River comes home with Connor for Christmas.

River doesn’t have a family or any place outside of college that he calls home. Not that it matters to him; he’s happy being alone for Christmas in his budget motel, watching reruns of Elf. Only, Connor keeps telling wildly improbable stories of the perfect family celebrations at his parents’ ranch in Texas, and it’s wearing River down. He didn’t ask to be kidnapped. He didn’t want to fall in love with the entire Campbell-Hayes family. But he does.

From one Christmas to the next. This is Connor’s year to rescue River, and himself, for them both to mess things up, make things right, fall in lust, and finally, for Connor to show the man he loves what being part of a family can mean.

(Previously reviewed- narration review follows)

Any time I can read an RJ Scott Texas series book, I’m happier than ..... Home for Christmas was classic Texas series; Jack, Riley, Lexie, Max, and the star of the book, Connor.

Home for Christmas was everything one could expect in a Ms. Scott story- love, laughter and heartache- but always coupled with family members who strived to be a loving and understanding family.

River was lost in the world and his own head. What he needed was a large dose of the Campbell-Hayes clan, especially Connor. Together River and Connor were tender, charismatic, and full spirited.  Their passion radiated through the author’s writing and transcended the lines of life and love.

As always Jack and Riley make any Texas story worth reading, as do the rest of the clan.
A beautiful addition to the series.

Another sure-fine winner by Sean CrisdenThe inflection and cadence created a dreamy world, yet angst-filled. Anyone who narrates a Texas book needs to be larger than life in their delivery, as all the Texas characters are bold and charismatic. Mr. Crisden- you did your job and sucked me right in.
One of my favorite narrations.

When the world labels a man and judges them blindly, is it possible to ever find love?

Firefighter Eric is on the front line, battling the threat of nature’s destruction in the California grasslands alongside his CalFire team. Focused and calm, even in the direst of situations, he has a strong affection for his fire truck, loves his career, and has best friends he can rely on. All he needs now is love, but that seems to be impossible to find. At his friend’s wedding. Eric falls in lust at first sight with the shy, slim, and sexy Brady, even if Brady isn’t the type of guy he usually goes for. What Eric longs for is an equal in his bed, not a smaller guy who might want Eric to role-play big strong firefighter every time they have sex. He wants to find someone he can be vulnerable with, someone who will love him for his soft heart and quiet ways.

Brady’s life plans grind to a halt when his niece and nephew lose their parents in a tragic accident, and he becomes a dad overnight. His Developmental Coordination Disorder rules his life, but he fights both DCD and the fears that chase him every day, to give Maddie and Lucas a home. Agreeing to go to a friend’s wedding is a decision he regrets long before he even gets there. But, he refuses to give in to his fear, even if he might do something that makes him a target for people’s comments and laughter. Meeting Eric, a huge man with a gentle voice and a flair for chivalry, he falls hard. Now, if only he can let himself get past his panic that Eric would never want someone like him, then maybe he could fall in love for real.

Previous Book Review (added Audio Review)
Single Dads: Today by R.J. Scott was sweet, sappy, and sexy. We met Brady in book one; Ash’s online friend in the Single Dads forum. The series followed the lives of three first responder/heroes of society; Sean the doctor (married to Ash), Leo, police officer, and Eric, firefighter. In Today, Eric and Brady receive their HEA.

Brady suffered from DCD, Developmental Coordination Disorder, and feared his disability would interfere with his life as it had done for most of it. To add to Brady’s stress, he was sole guardian to his niece and nephew- a tragic accident took his sister and her husband.

Eric was larger than life, but extremely gentle. His demeanor set Brady at ease and his tender no nonsense nature endeared Brady’s children.

I adored both men and the dynamics of their relationship. They took precarious and insurmountable situations and dove both feet first to accomplish something special and find love.

Sappy at times, but the overall theme was developed and gave insight to someone suffering from DCD and the challenges faced and overcome.

I adored Sean Crisden's voice in the narration of Today. His ability to personally characterize each person in the book was admirable and completely believable. Mr. Crisden never disappoints, no matter who he "reads" nor who's the character. I could listen to his voice for hours- good thing I like audio books.

Riley and Jack came alive through the melodic narration by Sean Crisden of RJ Scott’s book, Texas Family. Our hunky couple decided to expand their family through surrogacy, increasing by not just one, but two beautiful babies. Additionally, Riley and Jack made plans to adopt a special needs child, Max. The Campbell-Hayes family instantly goes from three to six in the blink of an eye.

Ms. Crisden captured the essence of the men with his sensual rendition and transported me to the Campbell-Hayes ranch in Texas.
The story overall flowed and brought a smile to my face.

A sweet tale of love and family.

S.E.X. Review~ The Christmas Throwaway by R.J. Scott

Christmas is a time for giving - what do you do when no one gives a damn?

For Zachary Weston Christmas means sleeping on a churchyard bench in the freezing snow with nothing better in his future. Thrown out of his home for being gay, he is left without money or, it seems, anywhere to go.

Until a stranger shows him that some people do give a lot more than a damn.

Ben Hamilton is a rookie cop in his small home town. He finds a young throwaway, fresh from the city, sleeping on a bench in the churchyard on a snowy Christmas Eve. Can he be the one to give Zachary his own Christmas miracle?

R.J. Scott delivered a beautifully written Christmas story in The Christmas Throwaway and one that should be read every year to remind us of our blessings.

Zach was tossed from his home.  Young, vulnerable and homeless, Zach was lucky enough to meet police officer Ben on a cold winter’s night, as the snow begun to fall and the temperature dropped. Ben talked Zach into returning to his home where we are treated to a beautiful family filled with love and warmth.

Although Zach was young and the attraction between the two men quickly snuck up, the story was so much more than that. Ben realized his feelings for Zach would turn into something more, but wanted the best for the young man, allowing him to grow, mature and find himself in the world.

I adored Ben’s family and friends~ the traditions, the gift-giving, the happiness which enveloped Zach and allowed him to be accepted.

Ms. Scott chose the perfect narrator for the audible addition. Sean Crisden’s soothing voice transported this reader into the wintery nights, the cold seeping into my bones and the gut-wrenching feelings of abandonment.

Ms. Scott wrote a slow-simmer story of lasting family and love~ a perfect tale to add to any Christmas collection.
