S.E.X. Review~ A Smile as Sweet as Poison by Helena Maeve

When fiery passion can turn on a dime, how far would you dare to gamble your heart?

When proof of a college indiscretion comes back to haunt her, Hazel’s whole world threatens to crumble under the threat of discovery.

Recently tangled in a three-way relationship with her best friend’s one-time lover and his prickly roommate should’ve turned Hazel’s hair prematurely gray. Sure, it’s not the sweeping fairy tale romance she might have imagined as a little girl, but it might just be the next best thing. Dylan and Ward are not only the right blend of domineering and considerate, they also seem eager to treat Hazel to a comfortable life. Whether it’s in the bedroom or the playroom, they are devoted to her pleasure and enthusiastic to help enact her deepest, darkest fantasies.

But while navigating the uncertain waters of such a complicated arrangement proves easier than expected, other areas of Hazel’s life aren’t so well anchored. As she struggles to keep a shameful secret that could irrevocably change the way Dylan and Ward see her, the tethers of the past call Hazel to home and hearth and the artful lure of an old flame.

Reader Advisory: This book contains scenes of bondage, BDSM and impact play, as well as a scene of rape fantasy.

Can things get any hotter for Hazel, Dylan and Ward as they further wade through relationship ups and downs? A Smile as Sweet as Poison rode the roller coaster of life with numerous pitfalls, but with an HEA in sight.

Helena Maeve does not deliver a typical erotic romance with lots of sex. What she delivered was an erotic romance with an underlying story full of intrigue and substance. And oh did I mention lots of steamy sex.

This is the second book in the Surface Tension series and I still question the character of the three MC’s. Each one is so different and Ms. Maeve makes their failings and accomplishments meld together into a cohesive story that drives me to finish the series with them finding their HEA.

Wade has become more vocal but still remains a mystery. Dylan is still the glue that holds them together—his relationship with Wade still a mystery. And Hazel has begun to realize that only Dylan and Wade can truly give her what she wants, especially in the bedroom.

In A Smile as Sweet as Poison, the author gave us a little more insight into what drives Hazel and why she thinks her kinks are her downfall—her past affairs and lifestyle,  the tumultuous relationship with her overbearing mother. Personally, I think her kinks make her unique and fit so well with Dylan and Wade.

The Surface Tension series is one of the best erotic romance series I’ve read and surely should not be missed. Helena Maeve has me hooked.
