S.E.X. Review~ Forged in Fire by Ari McKay

The magic touch.

Ever since Harlan Edgewood was bitten by a possessed werewolf, his monthly shifts have been agonizing. When he meets Whimsy Hickes—a mage who specializes in transformation—the attraction is mutual. But Harlan believes his curse is too great a burden to inflict on any romantic partner.

Fortunately, Whimsy thinks he can help.

When Harlan is provoked into an unexpected change, Whimsy uses his magic to help ease Harlan’s pain, but with an unexpected consequence. While he’s shifted, Harlan’s wolf claims Whimsy as his mate.

As they draw closer, suspicious events in the Asheville magical community escalate. Shifters are disappearing, others are murdered, and Harlan’s curse makes him an obvious target. It will take all of Whimsy’s magic to force back the rising evil—and if he fails, Harlan will lose not only his life, but his very soul.

What’s a curse lycanthrope to do when he feels he doesn’t deserve happiness or love?-Meet a sensible mage who believes in happily ever afters! Hundreds of years ago Harlan was bitten and turned into a werewolf. Unfortunately for him, he believed his new life was more a curse than a blessing. Whimsy, a mage specializing in transformation, believed he was just what Harlan needed to believe in himself and their new found love.

Ari McKay delivered another winner in the Asheville Arcana series. Harlan and Whimsy were wonderfully written; both tender and sweet with an edge of danger. Harlan’s innocence was rivaled by Whimsy’s patience and tenderness. Together the men complimented each other- a yin to the yang.

I especially like how the underlying story unfolded as each book came to fruition. The tales were not simply about finding the perfect person to complement, but also about friendship and sticking together to come out better on the other side.

Much like Eli and Arden from book one, Whimsy and Harlan were opposite sides of the coin, who together made a whole.

I look forward to the next chapter and hopefully Julian’s HEA.
