Ex-army vet Gavin Richie has even less capacity for romance. Managing a homeless shelter while recovering from injury keeps him far too busy. So what if he’s often alone? He’s content being single, or so he thinks until a chance meeting lights a spark he can’t ignore.
Yani is the warmth and affection Gavin hadn’t known he was missing. As Christmas lights up the city, their lives entwine in more ways than one. Falling for each other is easy. Holding on is harder, unless a hometown Christmas proves their love can last longer than the festive season.

I am a sucker for Christmas stories and I adore Garret
Leigh’s books, but Hometown Christmas left me wanting for more and a
tad bit confused. Yani and Gavin met at a homeless shelter; Gavin and employee and
Yani volunteered to man the kitchen when pressured to help from his best
friend. The chemistry was evident, rolling off of each man; even though they
both swore off relationships. Soon, their one night together turned to more and
things elevated from there.
I never connected with either character, and I’m not
convinced that the men even connected with each other. I realized after reading
the author’s note in the back of the book, that Gavin’s military time was secretive
due to the nature of his work, but the anonymity hindered the flow and pace of
the book. Of course, this is solely my opinion, and I am sure that many will
disagree. I also had a difficult time with the slang of the area. As someone
from the United States, the “speak” removed me from the story, and I had to
reread many sections over multiple times to understand the gist- once again on
me. Additionally, I never got the Christmas bug.
Regardless, I am a fan of Ms. Leigh’s work but
this one did not so it for me.
