¡Qué
mielda! Diablo couldn’t believe his ears. His vampiric hearing
never betrayed him. How could it be? One phone call and his life could be
changed forever. Hiring a vet would be fantastic, but the fact the vet turned
out to be his life mate was overwhelming. Unlike most shifters who solely
scented their mates, vampires were different―their mates voice called to them,
much like the siren call, as well as scent. Luckily, for vampires, they didn’t
need to be in physical proximity to know their mate, just hear the voice- the
first step in finding that one. As soon as he’d meet the vet, his scent would
surely be the final straw. He’d say it again― what the fuck. Diablo longed for
a mate and permanent submissive, the one which fate chose to compliment his
soul and heart. Dr. Kristoph Karlisle.
Diablo was so
taken back by the tingling in the back of his neck and the blood pulsing
exponentially in his veins that he forgot to ask the man what type of shifter
he was. Not that it would matter. Fate never chose wrong and Diablo would love
the man no matter what he was. It also didn’t help when his mate answered with
a “Yes, Sir.” Those were words the
Dom in Diablo yearned for.
The phone interview went well and with the
preliminaries out of the way, the good doctor would be arriving tomorrow early
evening. Diablo decided to ready the guest room at the front of the hacienda.
The man could rest and take in the surroundings before being subjected to the
full interview. Diablo feared the close proximity to his mate may hinder his
ability to rationalize, so he’d get Mikal to show him around the ranch.
Depending on the type of shifter Kristoph was, Diablo didn’t know if he could
sense a mate. If Kristoph did sense him, that would be a different story―close
proximity be damned.
“Amigo, what’s wrong? Your usually pale pallor has gone
as white as a sheet.” Mikal asked when Diablo disconnected his cell phone.
“Dr. Karlisle will arrive tomorrow evening, Mikal. Can
you make sure the guest room in the front is prepared? We can make permanent
arrangements after he arrives and accepts the position.”
“What makes you think he’ll accept so readily?”
continued Mikal.
“He’s my mate,” whispered Diablo.
