S.E.X. Review~ Uprising By Annabelle Jacobs

Isaac had lost Michael once. He wouldn’t survive a second time…

Michael

Five years ago, he became the alpha of the most influential London pack. Responsible for monitoring and suppressing the human resistance, also known as the Candidate Evacuation Group.
A group he’d secretly founded.
Now exposed and on the run, labelled a traitor by his peers, he finds refuge in the home of the man he left behind. The only man he’s ever loved.
For Michael, that love burns as bright as it always has, but they’ve been apart a long time. He can’t expect Isaac to still feel the same.
But he can hope.

Isaac

When Michael left for London after the war, he took Isaac’s heart with him, promising to return when the time was right. But that took longer than either of them expected.
Now he’s back, with the whole of the Shifter Alliance Party out for his blood. But being together is hard. Long-buried feelings bubble to the surface, and rekindling an old romance is low on the list of priorities—they have a rebellion to fight.
Isaac will protect Michael with his life.
Always.
But trusting him with his heart again isn’t nearly as easy.

Uprising by Annabelle Jacobs was everything that I hoped in the continuation of the Rebellion series. This particular book focused on Michael and Isaac, separated for five long years as their work with CEG took precedence over their potential mating.

There are a few things that I truly like about the series. One, Ms. Jacobs never failed to keep past characters resurfacing in subsequent books as they are all important in the overarching theme. Two, Ms. Jacobs delivered twist and turns which the reader would not expect, keeping us on the edge of our seats. And three, Ms. Jacobs gave all her characters life, edge, and intrigue.

Michael and Jacob captured my attention and they never let go. The author allowed them to create their own flow which traversed throughout the book in good and bad times. They created their own HEA, not forced but worked for- probably my favorite couple to date.

Ms. Jacobs has the uncanny knack of writing edgy scenes that take the reader to the brink, yet never lets us fall. Instead, we hang on every word in the hopes that the next sentence, paragraph, scene, will bring us full circle.

A book and series not to be missed.

S.E.X. Review~ A No- Strings Noel by Annabelle Jacobs

A week of no-strings fun in a winter wonderland setting. No consequences, no expectations, no hurt feelings. Right?

Henry:
Finding his boyfriend in a compromising position leaves him with a week off work and no holiday to go on. A night of vodka, ice cream, and his sister’s sympathetic ear is the only way to deal with it. It’s also how he finds himself on holiday alone a few weeks later, at an English holiday village in the countryside, surrounded by Christmas cheer and happy families.

He’s expecting a week of relaxing days and early nights, doing his own thing, and taking some time for himself. And hopefully finding some festive spirit along the way, because it’s sorely lacking at the moment.

What he’s not expecting is Dom.

Dom:
Coming to somewhere so familiar soothes his broken heart after yet another failed attempt at finding someone to settle down with. He’s ready. They never are.

Seeing a lost-looking stranger on the first day of his holiday triggers his protective instincts, so he steps in to give him some helpful advice. Who knew that advice would mean they end up spending the day and then the whole week together? But he figures a holiday fling is exactly what he needs to get through this slump: no expectations, no misunderstandings, no heartbreak.
Or that was the plan.
He knows Henry wants more, but he doesn’t trust himself where his heart’s concerned. He doesn’t trust Henry not to break it.

A Christmas MM romance featuring a meet-cute, a sexy holiday fling, a meddling but awesome sister, a teeny bit of angst, and a festive HEA.

A No- Strings Noel by Annabelle Jacobs was a nice read. A little slow to start, the book turned out to be sappy with just enough sweet. Dom and Henry met at a Christmas wonderland park and started a week of sexy activities, as the two men were stag -recently broke up with boyfriends.

The upstart of the relationship formation was slow and methodical, and at times a bit confusing. As a fan of Ms. Jacobs, I wanted to love this book, but I only liked it. More times than not, I was not sure what was the point while also feeling the miscommunication between the two men was forced.

I liked the fierceness of Henry’s sister and would have liked more of Dom’s family. The ending made me smile and came full circle.

A Christmas trope to add to your list.

S.E.X. Review~ Defiance by Annabelle Jacobs

Returning to their pack was always going to be dangerous, but is the fight for freedom worth the cost?

Cole and Logan return to London, ready to execute their plan of connecting with the human resistance. But with both of them blamed for the deaths resulting from Cole’s escape attempt, they receive a less than warm welcome from the McKillan pack.

Cole gets a second chance, but it’s not without restrictions, and he must toe the line and do whatever it takes to fit in. But earning the trust of his alpha and fellow shifters comes at a price.

For Logan, being close to Cole and unable to touch him is a daily torment, but watching from the sidelines while Cole learns what it means to be a McKillan enforcer is pushing him to his limits.

Both men must play their parts to perfection if they want Cole to be accepted into the pack, and that means doing what’s asked of them, no matter the cost.

Annabelle Jacobs delivered grit and emotion in the Rebellion series continuation in Defiance. The story picked up at the end of Escape with Logan and Cole returning to the McKillian pack. All was not what it seemed, and the convolution was what kept the story fresh and interesting.

Ms. Jacobs took the readers through topsy turvy situations and the emotional high kept this reader on the cusp of irritation~ mostly in a good way. I was confused at a few part, but maybe I just read too much into it. Why didn’t’ the other know about their relationship? Pheromones?

Overall, I enjoyed the story and am invested in the series. I am a fan of Ms. Jacobs writing style and always look forward to reading her works. She has a way of capturing the readers attention, and good or bad, my attention was held!

Must read the series in order.

S.E.X. Review~ A Christmas Break by Annabelle Jacobs

Christmas is a time for giving, not lusting after your brother’s best mate.

Finn has never had the Christmas of his dreams, and this year isn’t shaping up to be much better. Then he rents his spare room out to Jasper, and life begins to look up.

Laid-back Jasper is nothing like Finn expects. He’s hot, sweet, and easy to talk to. Finn could easily fall for him. But, he’s his brother’s best friend. He’s off limits, and Finn would never break that sacred rule…right?

Jasper has carried a torch for his best mate’s brother for years. Living with him sparks an old flame to light, and the more time they spend together, the brighter it burns. Finn is gorgeous and kind. He’s everything Jasper has ever wanted.

But he’s also scarred by old wounds and reluctant to let his guard down again. Friendship blooms, and for a short while, it’s enough. But the fire between them is undeniable. Finn can fight it as much as he likes.

He won’t win.

I love a good Christmas story and Annabelle Jacobs’ A Christmas Break was a sweet read. Finn and Jasper had a personal connection with Jasper being Finn’s brother Cole, best friend. Problem, Jasper had a thing for Finn, yet Finn still saw him as a kid.

I’m always amazed when authors make a five-year difference appear to be insurmountable. Unless we are talking teen years and underage characters, five years doesn’t seem to be that big of a deal.

Ms. Jacobs did a nice job of making Finn and Jasper’s relationship believable. Both men were sweet and seasoned. Both knew what they wanted in reference to each other and were able to overcome any tribulations. Some angst regarding both men in their respective lives, but nothing that wasn’t easily solved.

Sweet characters with soft spots for stray cats.

S.E.X. Audio Review~ Bitten by Mistake Narrated by Antony Ferguson

From animosity to searing passion in a lunar cycle…but can their bond survive?
Wolf shifter Nathan Kohl’s pack is his whole life. Arrogant and handsome, he avoids commitment to anything or anyone outside of his pack. He works hard, plays hard, and pursues humans as lovers because there’s little to no chance of him forming a permanent bond. However, when Jared Taylor comes into Nathan’s life, every rule is broken.
Annabelle Jacobs, MM RomanceAfter a bad experience, Jared vowed to never get involved with another shifter, no matter how much they got under his skin. Despite being physically attracted to Nathan, who’s all kinds of hot, Jared only sees an arrogant, domineering bastard.
A disastrous case of mistaken identity throws Nathan and Jared together until the next full moon. Forced to spend the next twenty-eight days in close proximity, they can no longer ignore the powerful attraction between them. Passion ignites, and their relationship takes a turn neither of them wanted.
But when the full moon comes, everything might change again.

Bitten by Mistake by Annabelle Jabobs and narrated by Antony Ferguson was the start of the Regent’s Park Pack series. I enjoyed the book, albeit a bit confusing at times as the author delivered a lot of information throughout the story. A human and a shifter get together, by mistake, and of course things go down hill from there. I always have a hard time reading books where one person tries to hide another or tries to lay claim, but as a fan of the overall series, it was a good read.

The narrator, Antony Ferguson brought the book to life as he changed the inflection in his voice and brought the characters to life. Whenever I read a book, in my mind I try to give a voice to the characters, and Mr. Ferguson brought my imagination to fruition.

I enjoyed the audiobook and would listen to more by this narrator.

S.E.X. Review~ Alliance by Annabelle Jacobs

Alliance (Torsere Book 3) by [Annabelle Jacobs]With war, comes sacrifice….

Ryneq and Nykin return home to find the lowland armies camped along Torsere’s borders. Seran wants the dragons, and with a new witch in his ranks, war is inevitable.

With the elves at his side, Ryneq fights to keep Seran and his soldiers at bay. But they’re not prepared for the witch using old dark magic. As Nykin and the dragon riders battle a deadly attack, an unexpected betrayal forces Ryneq to make a difficult decision.

Faced with the prospect of losing his kingdom, Ryneq gambles on a plan that could ultimately save Torsere, if only they can stay alive long enough to see it through.

Featuring magic, suspense, and danger in the final instalment of this romantic fantasy.
Previously released through Dreamspinner

A fantastic ending to Annabelle Jacobs Torsere series, Alliance was everything I hoped it would be. While I enjoyed book 1 and 2, there were certain elements that rubbed this reader the wrong way- nothing major, and maybe more my personal pet peeves, but none the less. On the other hand, Alliance was the culmination of a wonderful read and the ending made my heart smile.

Seran and his witch catapulted themselves in Torserian territory in the hopes of destroying and taking over the land. Ryneq and Nykin, along with the elves and the other dragon riders prepared for battle and the defense of their homeland.

The relationship between Ryneq and Nykin flourished in Alliance and they became the king and consort I longed for. Their love for each other radiated through Ms. Jacobs writing and she allowed them to blossom. Each man dealt with his own misgivings and responsibilities, but together they became stronger.

No spoilers, but all was not well in the land of Torsere, and a few tears were shed. The world building, the writing- a job well done by Ms. Jacobs keeping this reader entertained.

S.E.X. Review~ Union by Annabelle Jacobs

Union (Torsere Book 2) by [Annabelle Jacobs]Can magic save them before it’s too late….

After the defeat of the Lowland Army, King Seran is still at large, and Torsere needs the Elves’ protection more than ever. Nykin returns to his duty as a dragon rider and accompanies Ryneq to the Elven city of Alel to witness the joining of their two realms through marriage.

As the wedding approaches, the dragons sense a malevolent presence lurking at Alel’s borders. Nykin and Fimor take to the skies to patrol the magical city, but as the evil grows more potent, the enchanted boundary surrounding Alel grows weaker.
Working alongside the elven guard, Nykin and Ryneq once again ride headfirst into danger as they struggle to protect Torsere from Seran’s thirst for revenge.

Featuring magic, suspense, and danger in the continuation of this romantic fantasy.
Previously released through Dreamspinner.

Union by Annabelle Jacobs picked up where Capture left off and I was sucked in! While I loved the storyline and the dragons and dragon riders were amazing, I was a tad bit confused by Ryneq and Nykin’s relationship once Ryneq announced Nykin as his consort.

The dynamics and interaction between the two men was well done, but in my mind Nykin should have been more “elevated” in everyone’s eyes as Ryneq’s consort.- Maybe just a pet peeve of mine.

In book one I was leery of the elves, but they proved to be a trustworthy group with interesting personalities that enhanced the dynamics between themselves and the Torsereans.

Once again, the dragon, especially Fimor stole the show. His sarcastic wit was right up my alley.

Overall, I am enjoying the series and looking forward to Ms. Jacobs final book in the trilogy.

S.E.X. Review~ No Place Like Home by Annabelle Jacobs

Will Oliver get the gift he’s hoping for this Christmas?

Oliver Walker’s Christmas is shaping up to be a quiet one. That is until hunky neighbour Ed Middleton moves in next door.
Attraction is instant, but Ed is only there temporarily and neither wants to start something with an expiration date.

As the festive season approaches, holiday cheer wraps around them, and giving in to temptation is inevitable. But Ed is still set on moving in the new year—a fresh start, miles away from those he’s closest to.

If Oliver doesn’t want to lose his heart, he’ll have to show Ed that home is wherever he wants it to be, and love is possible no matter what.

A Christmas trope is one of my favorite reads, especially when done right. No Place Like Home by Annabelle Jacobs was sweet and sexy sans all the misplaced intercourse. It was refreshing to read a story where the main characters were sexy without the constant “jumping each other”, and there was good old fashion fun.

Ed was a family man who planned to move hours away from the ones he loved, because of a bad breakup and ill-fitted words. Oliver lived next door with his “nan”, drawn to Ed, but the two decided to be friends since Ed was soon leaving. It’s a good thing some meddlesome family and friends convinced Ed otherwise so they men could receive their HEA.

As always, toss in some sweet animals, and the storyline was a sure hit. As a fan of Ms. Jacobs, I am always impressed with her ability to create realism in her stories without being cheesy and contrite.
A lovely Christmas story and worth the read from a prolific author.

This isn’t the life Cole dreamt of, but what choice does he have?

With his twenty-third birthday behind him, Cole Moreton now faces the shifter compatibility test which will decide his future. Testing positive means joining a pack and eventually taking the bite. Unfortunately, with enviable skills in self-defence and hand-to-hand combat, the kind of packs interested in him aren’t any he’d want to join.

Logan has been a member of the McKillan pack for most of his life. Pack is family and loyalty is everything, but when the shifter government turns out to be no better than the oppressive humans before them, he questions everything.

Right from their first meeting, Logan knows that a life with the McKillan pack isn’t right for Cole, but with his alpha taking a keen interest in Cole’s skills, Logan’s hands are tied. Mutual attraction builds between them, but acting on it is futile—helping Cole will put their lives at risk and an end to any future they could’ve had.

As a fan of Annabelle Jacobs and her Regents Park Pack, I looked forward to reading the start of her new series Rebellion. Escape did not disappoint, and kept this reader intrigued and on the edge the entire time. A new spin where shifters took over the governments and humans were second class citizens and had little choices in life.

Human Cole reached his twenty fifth birthday, and along with others who drew the lottery, tested for the potential shifter make up; strength, endurance, and skill set. Once Cole’s DNA proved worthy he was courted by London’s largest pack for their slightly nefarious unit.

Logan, a shifter with the McKillan pack, was in charge of recruiting Cole and “forcing” him to join and accept the bite.

Logan also had a secret which Cole soon became privy as it unfolded throughout the tale.

Ms. Jacobs took us on a roller coaster ride of emotions and suspense as Logan and Cole tried to keep ahead of those who wanted to hurt Cole and eventually Logan. Not everything was as it seemed and the fast-paced storyline took us from zero to sixty in no time flat. The dynamics between the characters was evident and each character played an integral part in the overall tale.

I enjoyed the start of this new series and even though the story did not completely end with an HEA, the necessity was apparent for the next book to continue the series.

Wounded Soul by Annabelle Jacobs was a delightful read with a different spin on the vampire genre. Her infusion of coven life, rules, and expectations was wonderfully set, with a world building of suspense, drama, and romance.

Jesse and Ian were well-written characters. Ian, a human turned vampire and Jesse the vampire who fell hard for the man.

The intricate dance the men encountered and the story line they found themselves in gave way to two characters meant to be together and a host of secondary characters which stole the show.

I hope the story continues with more of this new world to come, as I enjoyed the camaraderie, the friendship, and the sexy vampire love.

Daryl plays with fire and gets burned by fate…

Former Primrose Pack member Jason Black happily accepted his role as beta in the new Regent’s Hill pack, knowing that merging the two was the best decision for everyone involved. Daryl Easton is loyal and honest but wary of change. The joining of the two packs wasn’t his preferred outcome, and he’s struggling to see all the newcomers as pack, including those now working alongside him.

When the alpha council proposes a two-week pack-building course to help improve troubled relationships, Jason and Daryl are sent along as backup. It soon becomes clear that the unit members and their betas won’t be the only ones taking part in tasks—Daryl and Jason will have challenges of their own to complete.

With the full moon adding to the rising tension, emotions are volatile, and tempers flare among the unit members. Jason and Daryl become closer than either of them expected, but with such opposing views on relationships, a messy outcome seems inevitable unless Daryl can let go of the past.

The last book in the Regents Park Pack series, Bitten by Fate, was everything I hoped the culmination would be and so much more. Annabelle Jacobs regaled readers throughout the series with spectacular world building and larger than life characters. Jason and Daryl did not disappoint in this area. Brought together when Alpha Harley absorbed the ill-treated and mismanaged pack of Alpha Newell, Jason and Daryl must forge a bond as betas and help bring their squads together. With the approval of their alpha and the council, the squads trekked to a team building excursion in order to cement and forge toward the final step of a united pack.

Daryl and Jason found each other attractive but Daryl’s reluctance to form a mating bond left them both on the outs. I enjoyed the twists and turns Ms. Jacobs infused throughout and her ability to not lose sight of her final goal in the series. Her writing was captivating, with excitement and thrills, this roller coaster ride was worth the read.

Bitten by Fate was not a capitulation of the same ‘ole shifter book, but a story of family bonds in the form of a pack, men and women who led everyday lives, who just happen to share a spirit with their wolves, and the hopes that each member of the community could find true happiness. That was what Ms. Jacobs wrote about.

Bitten by Fate, as with the rest of the series, delivered smiles, tears, and hope.
