S.E.X. Review~ Page's Price by Jenna Byrnes

When two KCPD detectives go undercover to catch a band of drug dealers, they reel in more than they were expecting.
Detective Gene Page remembers all too well the recent deaths caused by the Insanity drug. His task force was close to apprehending one of the major pushers in the area, but had to pull back when another detective’s son was threatened. Now Page is back on the case, working undercover and looking to bring down the local members of the notorious Montoya drug cartel.
Sexy Rastafarian drug dealer Suede Santana is high on his list of people to watch. Page could watch the handsome hunk all day, in fact, but knows he can never touch. When Suede is finally apprehended, he has a story of his own to tell, and the KCPD is forced to rethink their tactics. Diego Montoya is the head man in charge and they focus their efforts on bringing him down. But does the undercover task force have a chance of succeeding when they find out Montoya has disappeared without a trace?
Gene and Rafi were the newest pairing in Jenna Byrnes Kansas City Heat series, Page’s Price. Thrown into the underbelly of the drug world, the DEA agent and the KCPD officer found common ground on eradicating the bad guys and finding love.

I enjoyed Page’s Price and the dynamics between the two men. Ms. Byrnes delivered a nice story with enough angst to keep me interested and a larger than life DEA agent who stole the show.

A well-rounded story that was worth the read.

S.E.X. Review~ Fahey's Flaw by Jenna Byrnes

Can KCPD detectives keep the latest designer drug off the streets and out of the hands of teenagers?
There’s a new drug of choice in town, and the detectives of the KCPD Vice Department are working fast to keep it away from unsuspecting students looking for a cheap high. Detective Wynn Fahey’s son, Connor, is thirteen going on thirty. His recent announcement that he’s gay causes concern for his mother and her new husband, and the parents of the boy he’s been caught in a compromising position with.
Wynn struggles to help his son adjust, not having gone through the same issues since he didn’t come out until he was divorced with a child. When the new five dollar Insanity drug invades Con’s school, the boy is forced to grow up faster than his parents would have liked. Will the love and support of handsome English teacher Reilly O’Keefe be enough to sustain Wynn and Connor, or are they in too deep to scrabble their way out of danger?

Jenna Byrnes is at it again~ introducing us to Wynn Fahey in the newest installment of the Kansas City Heat series~ Fahey’s Law.

Wynn struggles to find love, keep his son safe and protect the teens of Kansas City from the newest deadly drug to hit the streets.

Reilly, teacher at Con’s (Wynn’s son) school was the man that captured the detective’s heart.

The relationship between the two men progresses quickly, steaming the sheets and leaving little to the imagination. I enjoyed both men’s personalities and the ease in which they took to each other and respected each other’s choices.

The underlying story of a son coming out and trying to find himself in a world of bigotry and teenage angst was tastefully done. Additionally, the drug angle added anxiety and realism.

The story line flowed albeit sometimes quickly and conveniently, but none the less a good story.

I continue to enjoy this series.

S.E.X. Review~ Hyatt's Hunt by Jenna Byrnes

Kansas City’s latest serial killer suspect has just been released on a technicality. Can the homicide detective and the ADA work together to recapture the criminal?

KCPD Homicide’s newest detective, Jed Hyatt, apprehends a drug addict wanted for the gruesome murder of a local real estate agent. The man as much as admits the pretty woman isn’t his first victim. Before Jed has a chance to question him, the suspect’s lawyer gets him released on a technicality. Shocked and frustrated, Jed butts heads with the Assistant District Attorney assigned to the case, Brody Carpenter. Brash but sexy as hell, Brody lashes out at Jed for sloppy police work. He suggests the officers keep digging, and bring him any information they can uncover. In private, Brody’s interested in another type of ‘under the covers’ activity. Jed’s intrigued but concerned because the men are so different, yet Brody insists opposites attract. In a race to solve the case before anyone else is hurt, Jed discovers in a terrifying way that his actions have consequences, sometimes very dire ones.

Hyatt’s Hunt, Kansas City Heat #8 by Jenna Byrnes was equal parts mystery and love story. Jed Hyatt and his partner are on the hunt for a serial killer. Enter ADA Brody Carpenter and things heat up in the office and in between the sheets.

While I liked Ms. Byrnes characterization of Brody, my first impression was a spoilt self-righteous playboy, who was used to getting what he wanted. I did eventually warm up to the man as the story unfolded but never truly connected with him.

Jed on the other hand, captured my attention and the little details of being so close to his parents and you’re never too old to talk to mom every week, made me fall for the man even more.

The hunt for a serial killer added intrigue and drama to the story, with the bonus of characters from previous books adding to the mix.

Overall, the story was well-developed and can be read as a stand-alone.

S.E.X. Review~ VanDoren's Vice by Jenna Byrnes

A detective and the head of security at a casino have something in common, don’t they? Perhaps more than one thing.
Detective Mike VanDoren isn’t much of a gambler, but the ongoing embezzlement at Kansas City’s newest casino definitely has his interest. So does handsome Cole McKinney, the head of security at the Time and Tides. Mike dives head first into the case and a relationship with Cole, who can’t believe that any of his trusted employees and friends could be guilty. Mike knows differently, and it’s up to him and his team to figure out who’s behind the elaborate scheme. When a casino employee turns up dead, the case takes a bizarre twist, leaving Mike scrambling to save the people he cares about most.

Insta-love be damned~ Mike and Cole are electric in Jenna Byrnes’ VanDoren’s Vice. Property Crimes Detective Mike VanDoren and Casino Security Specialist Cole McKinney find it very difficult to keep their hands off each other as Ms. Byrnes delivered a hotter than hell, sexy read.

Mike was sent in to investigate missing funds from the casino in which Cole was in charge of security. A different spin on the men’s personalities, Mike and Cole have much in common and think alike.

Ms. Byrnes created larger than life macho men which did not shy away from their lusty feelings or the fact that their binding tie was hot sex.

VanDoren’s Vice delivered an HEA with much room to grow as Ms. Byrnes solidified the start of Mike and Cole’s relationship. I hope that we see more of this powerful couple in subsequent books.

S.E.X. Review~ Rainey's Release by Jenna Byrnes

A madman targets gay drug addicts. Can the KCPD track down the latest serial killer before more blood is shed?

Detective William Rainey is the newest man assigned to the KCPD’s Homicide Division, having just relocated from St. Louis with his life partner, Joshua Wolf. When a murder with the same MO as several St. Louis crimes takes place, the similarities are hard to ignore. The investigation turns personal and soon hits close to home. A suspect comes to light and Will finds himself in a battle to solve the most important case of his life. Enlisting the help of Detectives James Dixon and Nick Peyton is tricky when the men don’t feel like they know him yet. Can he earn their trust before it’s too late?

Will and Joshua have catapulted to the top of my men to love list. Jenna Byrnes’ Rainey’s Release book 6 in the Kansas City Heat series was phenomenal. The men were sexy, the characterization superb and the writing fluid.

Ms. Byrnes hit it out of the park. Will, a new homicide detective has transferred to Kansas City where Dixon and some of the characters from the Heat series work. Will must learn to not only fit into a tight-knit police community but also find his way with the love of his life Joshua. Joshua was a sexy Native American―tall, dark hair and mounds of muscles.

Every nuance Ms. Byrnes wrote endeared me to Joshua, making me want to wrap him in my arms and hug him, love him, squeeze him. Together Will and Josh were naturally sweet with sex-appeal abound.

By far, Rainey’s Release has been my favorite of the series. The perfect mixture of drama and mystery and lots of loving―Rainey’s Release is ….

S.E.X. Review~ Gage's Gift by Jenna Byrnes

A child is snatched from her home, the one place she should feel safe. Will the KCPD find her before something more sinister happens?

Detective DeMarcus Gage of the KCPD Missing Persons Unit knows that most child abductions are perpetrated by family members or persons known to the child. True ‘stranger’ abductions are rare—and taken very seriously by the police. When eight year old Leticia Braden disappears from her front yard the family is ruled out as suspects but actual leads are few.

Her traumatized parents need all the support they can get, and designate Leticia’s uncle Jack Braden to be their liaison with detectives. When he meets Jack, Gage struggles to keep his mind on the case. The two men share an immediate case of lust, which they fight to keep under control for more reasons than one. Jack’s not out of the closet, and Gage isn’t keen about sneaking around. A relationship beckons, but finding Leticia is their first priority. And as every cop knows, time is not on their side.

Gage’s Gift by Jenna Byrnes is part of the Kansas City Heat series. I have enjoyed all the books in this series and Gage’s Gift was a nice read. Detective Gage was called to handle a missing child case, where he met the girl’s uncle, Jack. The two men immediately felt chemistry and although they skirted the issue with innuendos and chose to hold their attraction at bay, within a very short period they got hot and heavy.

Ms. Byrnes did a wonderful job of instilling police procedure and speak into the book, as well as the professional attitudes of the officers. Where I wavered was with the clichéd descriptors of African-American men and the fact that although Gage and Jack were invested in finding Jack’s missing niece, they still carried a heavy dose of lust for each other from the start~ which was vocalized throughout.

Lots of sex. A nice addition to the series.

S.E.X. Review~ Taylor's Task by Jenna Byrnes

A rapist changes his targets from hookers to reputable women. Can frightened townspeople rely on the KCPD to solve the crimes?

Detective Jeff Taylor of the KCPD Vice Squad is determined to nab the latest serial rapist preying on the city. As the violence escalates, murmurs of negligence plague the force. Tired of the accusations against the police, Jeff ramps up the investigation. With the members of the local neighborhood watch breathing down his neck, he and the Vice Squad are in a race to apprehend the suspect before anyone else is injured.

Reese Iverson owns the Cock and Bull British Pub, located in direct proximity to where the violence is occurring. Along with matching the reward money, he takes an active role in the neighborhood group. He also has his eye on Jeff, and his interest there is more than professional. Can they work together to solve the case or will their different methods drive them apart?

Taylor’s Task was everything this reviewer hoped for. As a new fan of Jenna Byrnes and the Kansas City Heat series, I looked forward to getting my hands on this book, and was definitely not disappointed.

Jeff Taylor, vice cop, was searching for a serial rapist. Struggling to find the perpetrator, while maintaining civility with the community, Jeff enlists the help of neighborhood watch member and owner of the Cock and Bull Pub, Reece Iverson to keep the restless community informed.

Oh how Jeff was attracted to the lovely lilt of a British accent. The pull between them instantaneous, both searching for the same things~ make the neighborhood safe and navigate the waters of attraction and desire.

Jeff and Reece were larger than life characters, each man creating a presence that filled the pages.

Ms. Byrnes crafted flaws and nuances which enhanced the story and the personality of the men. The realities of a service profession, age differences and societal stigmas, were aptly portrayed through the author’s written word.

A hunk in uniform, a British owner of an authentic pub in K.C. and steamy sex~ grab a tall glass of wine, lay back and relax, because a night with Taylor’s Task is about to create a feeling of euphoria and orgasmic high.

S.E.X. Review~ Cameron's Code by Jenna Byrnes

Interstate transportation of stolen property calls for FBI intervention. Can the KCPD detective and the bureau agent break up the crime ring before anyone else is killed?

Detective Dean Cameron with the KCPD Property Crimes Department is investigating a rash of local business thefts. When the cases cross state lines, the FBI is brought into action. Dean welcomes sexy agent Matt Anderson’s help on the job, and before he’s decided if it’s a good idea, they wind up in bed. Sharing a desire that’s too hard to resist, the men fall into an intense physical relationship that both of them know can never last.

Impossible Relationships. Matt’s life is in Chicago and Dean’s in Kansas City. Neither of them want a long distance love affair, but Dean can’t imagine not pursuing one. He’s head over heels, but Matt isn’t quite as convinced. When their most recent case takes a turn towards the deadly, what they want doesn’t seem to matter anymore. Racing against the clock, Dean is desperate to save Matt and see what can be salvaged of their relationship.

Cameron’s Code by Jenna Byrnes was everything I could have wanted in a crime drama~ criminals to apprehend, characters with spunk, and sexy men of the law.

Dean is a member of the KCPD Property Crimes Division. Matt is the FBI Task Force agent sent to Kansas City to help solve the current string of thefts. When the two men meet, Ms. Byrnes creates an explosive synergy which I thought would melt my e-reader.

Dean and Matt develop a quick draw relationship which went from zero to sixty in no time flat with an underlying sense of vulnerability, lending itself to a great story.

Ms. Byrnes captivated my attention with sharp characters, easy banter and secondary characters which enhanced the overall flow of the book. Dean and Matt were open and desirable, qualities endearing to each other and this reader.  Ms. Byrnes has found a new fan and I look forward to more books in the Kansas City Heat series.
