Finding You by Lily Harlem was the continuation of her Redwood shifters series. Aleco, Pedro, and Julie- mated for many years- faced a trial that would surely scare any committed ménage and force them to take matters into their own hands.

While on an excursion in their town, Julie was kidnapped, leaving Aleco and Pedro bereft- their mate yanked away from them. While searching for her, the dog pack discovered a neighboring pack alpha was the culprit in the hopes of taking over territory.

While the premise of the story was nice, I fell short on the length of the story. No back story to the dog shifters original meeting of their human mate, no son Neo (book 1) concerned about his mother’s kidnapping, and sex which was run of the mill, and not what I’m used to by the talented Lily Harlem.

While the author does have me hooked to see where she’ll take the series, I just needed a bit more.

When Jude is offered a lift to anywhere on the back of a handsome stranger’s Harley, he throws caution to the wind and jumps on for the ride.

Jude has a boring office job in a sunny, but deadly, dull Californian town. The highlight of his day is sitting home alone with pizza and beer. So naturally, when Neo wants to take off into the sunset, with Jude in tow, he doesn’t argue.

Neo makes up his own rules. Deciding quickly that Jude is the mate for him, he breaks into a beautiful beachside home, pretending it’s his in order to impress the sexy man he’s picked up. He’s hoping things are going to get hot and sweaty between them real quick.

But the cops are onto them, and as Neo makes a run for it, Jude is hauled off to the police station. It’s not looking good. What started out so promising has now left a bitter taste in Jude’s mouth.

Will Neo come back for him? And if so, can he explain why whenever the huge black dog is around, he’s not? And can he really throw his life into the air and see where it lands? These are all questions that Jude’s mind, body and heart need to know the answers to.

Run Away With Me by Lily Harlem was a short tasty morsel that focused on meeting/ screwing. Dog shifter Neo found his mate- a human named Jude- and the rest was history.

If you're looking for a long substance- filled book then Run Away With Me was not the book for you. But, if you're looking for a very quick read with much sex from two very willing men, then this is for you.

Jude was very trusting and a tad bit naive as he immediately ran with Neo and spoke words of love within hours of their encounter. Not much was divulged about each man, but I got the impression Neo was bad boy extraordinaire and my hope is to discover more of him in subsequent books.

A few editing errors which caused me to reread a passage or two a few times but a short morsel none the less.

Master Hunter is officially part-owner of Kiss of Leather, so he’s thrilled to raise a toast in celebration now that the mystery of Corey’s kidnapping has been solved. However, he can’t help but feel left out. Everyone is paired up except for him. He’s never believed in monogamy before, but after Tobey unexpectedly left Kiss of Leather and no one knows where he’s gone, did Hunter make a horrible mistake by not sharing his true feelings?

Tobey has been miserable ever since leaving West Hollywood and going back to Idaho. After breaking his own promise to himself by falling in love with his trainer, Tobey impulsively left Kiss of Leather because of something awful Master Hunter said. But things at home are worse than ever and he’s come to realize that those who are related to him by blood aren’t necessarily his true family. The only place he’s ever felt he truly belonged was at Kiss of Leather.

Tobey has to face Hunter if he goes back to Kiss of Leather and Hunter has to figure out what he really wants from life and love. It takes a charity slave auction to show them what they’ve both been too stubborn to see.

Amidst the turmoil involving Corey’s kidnapping and the successful capture of the perpetrators, Hunter and Tobey found each other and began to build a bond in the Kiss of Leather family.

Facing Fears was a wonderful addition to Morticia Knight’s KOL series, and focused on the need for acceptance and the determination to overcome fear. Both men, emotionally stilted needed the kick in the pants they received to forge forward and express their true feeling for each other.

Much different than the other books in the series, Facing Fears did not necessarily focus on the BDSM aspect of the series, but more a slow burn of a budding relationship. I felt as if we didn’t get to really enjoy Hunter and Tobey until a few chapters in, as the beginning focused on Liam & Neal, and the capturing of the kidnappers. Ms. Knight also introduced us to a new character- genderfluid- Cruella. I hope we see more of Cruella in the future.

Duncan and Drew have nothing except their Highland upbringing in common, but they say opposites attract, and the attraction is immediate. Is this simply a summer fling, or can two men who live such opposite lives miles away from each other find a way to love?

Reader Advisory: This book contains references to homophobia and references to death of a character’s parents.

An out and proud fashion designer and a somewhat in the closet and shy Scottish cowboy were that backdrop for Alexa Milne's newest tale, My Highland Cowboy. 

Drew and Duncan lit the scenery and pages with Ms. Milne's eloquent writing and creative story telling. I was transported into the Highland ranch and felt a part of their lives.

The shy and unimposing mannerisms of Duncan elicited a tug at my heart and I adored Drew's take charge attitude- especially his relentless pursuit of Duncan. Together the men radiated beauty and affection.

The secondary characters added depth to the story and I hope to see many more books transpire from this one.

My Highland Cowboy was a lovely read and should not be missed.

The Wounded Warrior by B.A. Tortuga catapulted to this reader’s top ten list. Rory and Luke were larger than life characters with guts and devotion. Ms. Tortuga brought a wounded veteran and an openly gay Texas lawyer to the forefront of her new series Rocking W.

I adored Rory and Luke as well as Matt, Luke’s twin, and the rest of the cast of characters.

A tumultuous start to their relationship, Rory and Luke soon found a kinship in their kindred souls and forged through with their heads held high, albeit the baggage both men carried.

Rory, psychologically scarred from a physical attack, and Luke, a physically damaged war veteran, together the men casted aside their weaknesses for a stronger bond that allowed them to grow as a couple and begin a venture to help other war veterans.

I have always been fond of Ms. Tortuga’s work, giving her books high praise, but The Wounded Warrior may be her best work to date.

The realization through Ms. Tortuga’s words gave authenticity to the underlying story, centering on the horrors which can be thrown in life and the ever-present spirit to move forward. The fine line between giving up in the face of adversity and striving for the best can be tenuous, and Ms. Tortuga allowed both her characters to achieve their goals with dignity and respect, sometimes with a much-needed push, sometimes with a kind word.

The Wounded Warrior is a must read and well-deserving of praise. Thank you, Ms. Tortuga, for showing our military finest in the best possible light, while staying true to their everyday struggles.

Fate brings them together in the end…

Ansgar wakes to find himself outside—somewhere he’s never been before. He’s scared out of his wits and wonders whether The Scientist is conducting another experiment. The black wolf is Ben, and he didn’t expect to see a naked bloke on a cold night, sitting on his bare arse beside the old abandoned bread factory a mile or so away from town. Ben had only come out for a run, yet there he was, facing a man who clearly didn’t belong in these parts.

After taking Ansgar to his home, Ben discovers more about the big man—where he’s been, what he’s endured, and a few other things to boot. Things no one should have to go through. Ben’s determined to help heal Ansgar, to teach him the ways of not only the shifter world but the human one, too. Except there’s a human they need to be wary of, a man who calls himself The Scientist, and protecting Ansgar from him is Ben’s main priority.

The past holds a slew of secrets, ones that come tumbling out of hiding at an alarming rate. Ben and Ansgar need to face each one head on—although at times they’re overwhelming and relentless in their attack. The two men dream of living a life without fear in it one day, but unfortunately, dealing with the horrors from Ansgar’s old life have to come first.

The Running Fields by Sydney Presley took an interesting spin on shifters and shifter life. Main character Ansgar was kidnapped as a child and eventually dumped, now an adult with little memory of his past. Found by Ben, his fated mate, together they attempted to unravel the mystery of Ansgar's life and the experiments performed on him.

I enjoyed Ansgar's eagerness to learn and his wonder in every new experience. Ben too was a patient mate and invested in teaching Ansgar everything he needed to learn to bring him up to speed in a modern world- although, a few times, I found Ben treating Ansgar like a child and not the adult he was.

The Scientist and Mother Love- two integral people in Ansgar's life- yet little background was given and their involvement in experimentation glossed over. As well as Terry, Piers, and The Convocation. 

While I enjoyed the story, "the more" was missing, leaving more questions than answers, and hoping this was the start of a series where things will come full circle.

Ms. Presley always delivers new and interesting ideas in her writing, something I appreciate as a reader.

Author Bio

Helena Stone can’t remember a life before words and reading. After growing up in a household where no holiday or festivity was complete without at least one new book, it’s hardly surprising she now owns more books than shelf space while her Kindle is about to explode.

The urge to write came as a surprise. The realisation that people might enjoy her words was a shock to say the least. Now that the writing bug has well and truly taken hold, Helena can no longer imagine not sharing the characters in her head and heart with the rest of the world.

Having left the hustle and bustle of Amsterdam for the peace and quiet of the Irish Country side she divides her time between reading, writing, long and often wet walks with the dog, her part-time job in a library, a grown-up daughter and her ever loving and patient husband.

Helena Stone’s series Dublin Virtues, continued with her latest release Equality. Lorcan and Eric were introduced in book 1- Patience, as best friends to Troy and Xander. The four men quickly formed a friendship and bond which assisted them in achieving not only personal goals, but fighting for equal marriages rights for the gay community in Ireland.

Ms. Stone delivered well-developed characters with real issues, wants, and concerns as Lorcan fought inner demons and unacceptance from his family- against marriage equality. Lorcan’s struggle was handled with tact and true feeling, not sugar-coated and superficial. Together, Lorcan and Eric made a lovely couple with much to hold on to and a bright future ahead.

I enjoyed Ms. Stone’s ability to keep all the characters an integral part of her tale, past and present, and the introduction of Chris along with Shane’s (book one) return, gave me hope for an interesting book three. Secondary characters, especially Lorcan’s gran added a new dimension to Equality and substantiated the open-mindedness of people.

I would recommend reading the books in order so better experience the full affect and portrayal of all the characters.

Helena Stone's first book in her new series Dublin Virtues was wonderfully written with sweet and conflicted characters. 

Patience was a story of finding a purpose in the bigger scheme of life where true love and lasting relationships were within grasp.

Troy and Xander were perfect for each other- wading through their own insecurities to find themselves better together than apart. 

Secondary characters Erik and Lorcan added a little something extra and I look forward to their story.

Well written and held my attention- Patience was...

They try out a scene to see if they’ll click, and their connection is everything they’d both hoped it could be. However, the road to love and a Total Power Exchange isn’t an easy one. Neal still hasn’t discovered all there is to know about Liam’s traumatic upbringing, and he’s not sure if he’d ultimately be the right Master for Liam.

Both men are forced to face the truth about love, life and what it means to share it with another person. But before Liam can start over with Neal, he’ll have to cut the cords to his past and trust that Neal will be there to catch him when he does.

Reader Advisory: This book contains references to a traumatic and abusive upbringing.

Cutting Cords, Kiss of Leather by Morticia Knight was a fast paced sexy read opening the door for a new relationship and leaving us hanging with other dealings.

Liam was sensitive and sweet- the young man, born to serve- lacked guidance and service since the death of his master. Not wanting to speak ill of the dead, I surmised through Ms. Knight's writing that Mark had been colder than loving, yet gave Liam all he desired and took very good care of him.

Neal, a new Dom at KOL, fell hard for the shy, sensitive, and awkward boy, but wasn't sure a full-time M/s relationship was in the cards- Neal needed to remember that each relationship was what the parties made it, not cookie cutter.

Together Neal and Liam were sweet, sexy, and fun-loving both in and out of the bedroom.

Ms. Knight always delivers a wonderful read. Her characters are real people with true wants and desires- of which Neal and Liam fell into. Past characters from previous books are an integral part as the 'bad guys' have yet to be caught.

I would recommend reading the series in order and enjoy the world of KOL through Ms. Knight's eyes.
