S.E.X. Review~ Forgiven by Garrett Leigh

High school sweethearts Mia and Luke get a second chance at love in this brand-new contemporary romance from award-winning author Garrett Leigh.

When Mia Amour returns to England to open a florist shop, all she wants to do is put her lousy ex behind her and never look back. But getting a fresh start is easier said than done when her first love, the boy who once broke her teenage heart, strolls back into her life. He’s every bit as sexy as she remembers, and the urge to melt back into his arms almost makes her forget how devastated she was when he took off without a word. Almost.

Left with no choice, Luke Daley did what he had to do, leaving town to earn enough money to save his broken family, though it just about broke him, too. But now he’s back, running his uncle’s business and trying desperately to forget about Mia, the girl he left behind all those years ago. When he runs into her in town, the shock of seeing her again brings an intense rush of emotions: love, guilt…and an overwhelming urge to find out if it’s still as amazing between them as it used to be.

It doesn’t take either of them long to give in to desire and discover the fiery passion they once shared burns hotter than ever. With each new touch, each moment of forgiveness, old hurts heal and the future they’d hoped for ten years ago becomes possible again. But their fragile connection is tested by a threat neither of them saw coming—a threat that could end their second chance before it even gets started.

This reader is an adoring fan of Garrett Leigh and all her works but Forgiven did not do it for me. The writing, as always, was well done and developed, but the premise and the characters were not there.

Sweethearts as teens, Mia and Luke were supposedly hot and heavy- right there the mere idea turned me off. You were teenagers and sure you can fall in love, but the kind of love they professed just didn’t work if it was to believe they were each other’s everything. The entire story was based on Mia’s anger for Luke leaving and joining the Navy and never saying goodbye. She knew he joined the Navy, and I would assume a leave date- you do not join the military from one day to the next without knowing weeks to months in advance when you are leaving. I guess I didn’t buy the story that he slinked off in the night.

Mia’s anger resonated throughout the story and by God woman, give it a rest! No, she chose to harp and never let it go. Additionally, I found Luke a sniveling personality.

Unfortunately, I never felt forgiveness in this story and as much as I love a Ms. Leigh tale, this one did not do it for this reader.

S.E.X. Review~ Sin in Blue Jeans by Dakota Trace

Sin in Blue Jeans (Bad Apples Book 4) by [Dakota Trace]"Sin in Blue Jeans" is a standalone novel in the "Bad Apples" series.

The Big Apple is known to chew up people and spit them out...
An ex-con and bad boy, Mason Adams has worked hard for the last five years to put his past behind him and thinks he's finally begun to succeed.

Then walks in a fleeting encounter from his past. Ryleigh was supposed to have been a one night stand - she shouldn't still be haunting his dreams - let alone showing up on his work site.

She prefers blue jeans and a hardhat to dress blues and uniforms...

Ryleigh Fagin may love her overbearing Irish family, but they all seem to think they know what's best for her - no matter how many times she tells them she's a grown woman.

Then back into her life walks the ultimate sin in blue-jeans, Mason Adams.
Not only does he have two strikes against him in her family eyes: he's an ex-con construction worker, he's about to rack up a third when it comes to fraternizing with his boss's niece.

Don't miss any of the stories in the Bad Apples series. Bad Apples is a series featuring five steamy contemporary romance tales bringing together the bad boys of New York City with the love of their lives who they are willing to do anything for… even change.

Delicious Sin by Claudia Stevens
Big Apple Sin by Simone Evans
Sin in Blue Jeans by Dakota Trace
Sinfully Star-Crossed by Elouise East
Sweet Cider Sin by Rexi Lake

Sin in Blue Jeans by Dakota Trace was part of the Bad Apples series (each book written by a different author). This is the first book I read in the anthology and each is a stand-alone.

Mason was an ex-con fresh out of jail when he met a woman at a bar that struck his fancy. A brief encounter and a co.. block drove him from the mystery woman and the hell out of dodge. Some years later, the voice attached to said woman strolled into his office trailer at the construction site he worked for in New York City.

Ryleigh was a safety inspector, part of a construction company dynasty, and a female in a family of law enforcement. Her one-night stand starred in many of her subsequent fantasies until he came to life again, before her eyes.

I enjoyed the book and I am a fan of many of Ms. Trace’s work, but there were also some reservations. I am not a fan of the daddy romcom and a so-so fan of domestic discipline. I know this is a personal choice in reading material, but it is not at the top of my list.

Additionally, as a fan of Ms. Trace and knowing how well her writing can draw a reader into the story, I found Sin in Blue Jeans very reserved- something was missing. Maybe it was the BDSM fire I know the author so well for. I will assume (and I may be wrong) that her way of infusing some of what she is known best for was the insertion of domestic discipline. Unfortunately, it did not work for this reader. The story seemed forced and reined in.

The introduction of an ex nun who has no qualms about talking about hot and heavy sex or who takes in bad boys and helps straighten them out seemed like an afterthought. There one minute, gone the next. I wondered if she was needed.

All in all, if you are looking for a quick one-hour read at a great price, pick up Sin in Blue Jeans. Dakota Trace is one of my favorite authors and you can never go wrong reading her works- Sin in Blue Jeans was just not my cup of tea.

S.E.X. Review~ Finding His Mate by Rose Nickol

Justine hated working as a stripper for Razor, the leader of the wolves, but the pay was good.  It wasn’t a bad job, but Masher, one of the members of the club decided he wanted her and would do anything to get her. When her friend Jasmine disappeared, Justine knew something was up. Then she met Tito. When she contacted Maisy, Jasmine’s sister to pass on a message from her boss, Stud, the President of the Satan’s Bears sent Tito to bring Justine to him.

Marcus (Tito) Titoloni, a huge biker bear, worked for Satan’s Bears, the MC club that owned and ran Redding Flats. Tito was something Justine hadn’t been expecting. He was sexy as sin and so overprotective just like you would expect a bear shifter to be. Justine didn’t want to fall for him, but found that she couldn’t help herself. Tito walked into her life and took over. He handled things firmly and fairly and the sex wasn’t bad either. But what she did know from meeting Tito was that she was in so much trouble.

Finding His Mate, Satan’s Bears 2 by Rose Nickol was a very quick read.  An interesting take on shifters, a motorcycle club, and the people involved. While I liked the main characters, Tito and Justine, I found their relationship superficial and slightly forced. The manner is which they met was no different than any other couple involved in MC dealings. I really am still not sure, except for the fact Justine stripped at the bar, and Tito was in the MC, what each actually did. Was the MC club involved in illegal dealings? Were they good guys? As shifters, I can’t recall if they actually ever shifted in the book.

I do know that a group of wolves took over the town and apparently were the antagonists and bear shifters were the protagonists. The feud between the shifters was more told by the author and not shown. A few incidences that glossed over the issues, but nothing in depth.
I enjoyed Justine’s daughter, Christine. She was a sweet, precocious young lady who was high functioning autistic. I was slightly taken back at some of the language the author had coming from her mouth, and the way the “bad guy” talked about her.

The story ended abruptly, with a very quick resolution to all the buildup taking place throughout the tale. Anticlimactic with no information given.

Finding His Mate was not for me, but I’d like to try this author again.

When Anabelle Rowley, fifty-five, takes a two-week break at an exclusive beach-front villa, she meets a man—but not just any man. Instead, this one ticks every box on her imaginary boyfriend list.

For fifty-two-year-old John Ethan, going on a short vacation to recover from injury and moving to Australia comes rather fast. Imagine his surprise when he meets a woman who arouses his every desire.

Their holiday romance ignites fires in them both and this is something real, something long-lasting. But when Anabelle has to leave suddenly, neither has a way of finding the other again.

Will they ever be able to locate each other? And if they do, then John must reveal a secret, a secret that he fears Anabelle will never understand.

NOTE: This is told in 1st person POV from both the Hero and Heroine.

This is an erotic romance. There are explicit sexual descriptions and explicit language used throughout. It may offend some readers.

STORY EXCERPT:
Somehow, I’d managed to keep on my feet when the big wave crashed over Anabelle and me. She surfaced, spluttering, and I held out a hand. She let me help her up and I held her hand a little longer than necessary.
“Thank you, John.”
“You’re welcome. That was one big wave.”
“Sure was, but it’s fun.”
She was still grinning and I couldn’t help myself. I leaned toward her and our lips touched.
It was all I’d dreamed of and more. It was electrifying.
Our kiss was soft, tender, and a little unsure until I felt her press toward me. I put a hand behind her head and deepened the kiss. Oh yeah, I could get used to this.
We finally separated and gazed at each other. Her eyes had dilated slightly and her lips parted as she stared into my eyes.
“I couldn’t resist.”
“I … neither could I, John.”
“I’d certainly like to do it again.”
“Then maybe you should.”
We stood there, the waves crashing around us, as I kissed her again. This time I took my time reveling in the taste of her, mixed with the salty water. Her hands pressed against my chest.
When we stopped, I whispered, “I’ve wanted to kiss you since I first saw you reading.”
“You have?”
I nodded and traced her lips. Her eyes seemed to shut of their own accord as my fingers explored her gorgeous, full mouth. When she opened her eyes, I decided I should kiss her again.
It was wild.
The surf pounding against us, the sound of the ocean, and Anabelle in my arms. Another big wave hit us and sent us both under. I grabbed her hand as we fought our way back up to the surface.
“Sadly I have to accept that kissing and big waves don’t mix very well.”
She gave another of her lovely carefree laughs.
“I think you’re right. Come on up to my place and I’ll make you a coffee or tea.”
We waded back to shore. Anabelle picked up her towel and I realized mine was further down the beach.
“I’ll just get my towel and then join you.”
She nodded and continued walking back to her villa while I limped down to where I’d tossed my towel, picked it up, and then followed her into her villa. She’d thrown her towel on one of the outdoor chairs and was in the kitchen. I dropped my towel to join hers after drying off and walked to where she was. She turned to face me at my approach and it was all I could do not to grab her and kiss her again. Her face showed a little nervousness and I smiled.
“Coffee or tea?”
“Still an Englishman, it’s tea for me.”
“Do you want to try the Chinese White?”
“I’m sorry, I only drink black tea.”
She gave a giggle. “So do I. Chinese White is black tea, if that makes sense. It’s only the tiny top buds of the bush. Then after they’re picked they are left to dry naturally without any further processing. It’s a very delicate, smooth, and sweet-tasting tea, I love it.”
“In that case, I’d better try it.”
She nodded and set to making two mugs of tea. I sat down on one of the stools at the bench and studied her. I decided then and there that I’d never tire of watching her. She was so gorgeous. Those luscious curves of hers beckoned me non-stop and I thought I’d been semi-erect since I first saw her. She finished and put a mug in front of me, then another alongside it and came to sit on the stool next to me.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
I took a sip of the tea and let it roll around my tongue. The taste surprised me, very light but fruity. Anabelle was right. It was very smooth with no bitter aftertaste that I sometimes got with black tea. She grinned at me and raised her eyebrows.
“It’s lovely. I think I may have to convert.”
“It’s delicious, isn’t it?”
We savored our tea in silence, except for the roar of the waves and the sound of the wind that was getting stronger as it blew through the trees. I wanted to learn all about this lovely woman, but what I actually wanted to do was kiss her again. I noticed her give a shiver.
“Cold?”
“A little.”
I stood and moved behind her, rubbing my hands up and down her arms.
“Maybe you should change into something warmer than this damp suit.”
