S.E.X. Review~ Challenge Me by Kris Jacen

Briar Mason joined the Army to find himself after he believed the lies that had gone around about his best friend, Carter, and his sister. He should have known that Carter wouldn't do those things but family was family, right? He'll find out who his real family is when he's injured and sent back to the states.

Not-telling-you-my-first-name Randolph was about to hit ten years in the Army and had some amazing assignments but one had eluded him until now – Ranger School. Coming from being assigned to the Presidential Salute Battery was going to be the best thing for him since training was emphasized. Should be easy, right?

Briar and Randolph met when Briar had stopped to apologize to Carter and Randolph was in full-on protective mode. Can these two find a middle ground while challenging themselves and each other to be better?

Challenge Me by Kris Jacen was a nice treat with a superficial look into the lives of military men, women, and the family they chose. Randolph (Brand) and Briar were the main characters in this addition to the With Me series. I enjoyed the trials and tribulations the author penned and the resolutions which followed.

Both men were loving and cared not only for each other but those in their “family”. The pace of the book was not rushed, but lacked some depth and quickly glossed over the main issues~ everything was resolved within a few pages before the next thing arose and was resolved. Loved the insertion of the service dog BB; any story with a dog is a winner in my book, but once again the reality of receiving said dog was resolved in a few paragraphs. 

While I enjoyed Challenge Me, as well as the previous books in the series, this one left me wanting for more.

S.E.X. Review~ Broken Soldier by Jamie Lynn Miller

Sergeant Connor Finley and Sergeant Shawn Weller are dedicated soldiers working covert ops for Shadow Unit — a joint UK/US anti-terrorism task force.

Broken Soldier by Jamie Lynn Miller was a wonderful mix of military know-how, intrigue, and sexy characters. Shawn and Connor were part of an elite group known as Shadow Unit.

Sent to infiltrate the nefarious Jae on Kuala Lumpur, the men found themselves on the wrong side of the tracks and fitting for survival.

The relationship between the men was well-developed as Ms. Miller traversed the ins and outs of the seedy underbelly of sex, drugs, and violence. Additionally, the author delivered a carefully crafted tale of an undercover operative who must become totally immersed~ regardless of consequences.

The dynamics between Connor and Shawn tugged at my heart and left me cheering for them and the wrongs that must be made right. Connor’s pleasant, yet stoic disposition permitted Shawn to combat the evils of his mission while carving his own notch in the team and Shawn’s life. Together, Ms. Miller created a dynamic duo~ brains, strength, and pure sex.

I look forward to reading book two in the series and further delving into the lives of Connor and Shawn.

S.E.X. Review~ His Soldier~ Anna Lee

After a tragedy, in a way to honor his brother and try to cope, Dean becomes a army pen pal to Sergeant Ryder Brooks. The two connect through letters and phone calls for a year, falling in love and making plans to meet when Ryder finishes his tour. However, in an effort to save one of his men who steps on a mine, Ryder loses his leg. Broken and depressed, he doesn't think Dean will want him. But once Dean learns what happens, he immediately goes to Ryder, determined to help him heal and show him that he loves him no matter what. Ryder has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but with Dean's support, he realizes his life isn't over, it's just beginning if he’ll only give them a chance. 

I fell in love, a military romance which caught my eye and did not disappoint. Anna Lee captured my attention from the start, the love story of Ryder and Dean—His Soldier. A love story forged out of tragedy and ending with a satisfying HEA for the main characters and myself.

Beaten and tossed from his home at age sixteen, Dean sought solace and family with his best friend Dax. Closer than blood brothers could be, Dean and Dax were inseparable until tragedy took Dax and left a gaping hole in Dean. Forced to move on, Dean decides to take a military pen pal in the hopes of honoring Dax’s memory. Dean was just what Ryder needed.

Without family, Ryder joined the military and made the Army his home. Writing long distance to Dean was the closest thing to family he’d have. The men corresponded and fell in love across the sands.

What I most enjoyed about the story was the believability of Ms. Lee’s words and the progression as the story unfolded. Dean and Ryder fell for the ‘man’ sans any physicalness and allowed their friendship to simmer and grow.

Tragedy befalls Ryder and he must learn to deal, cope and accept. After a moment of pity, clarity set in and the two men begin a relationship together as opposed to long distance.

Ms. Lee took this reader through the pangs of war, loneliness and despair and the prospect that love and life are possible even when times are at its most desperate. His Soldier was not a tale of feeling sorry but of survival. The ability to always look for the good when life throws you curve balls, and know that someone will be there to pick up you, hold on tight and love you unconditionally. Both Dean and Ryder learned these valuable lessons along the way.

His Soldier hit it out of the park.
